A joint venture course combining the expertise of National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), The Biomimicry Institute, and Minneapolis College of Art & Design, Master of Arts in Sustainable Design program. Design students and professionals engage in a 14-day wilderness expedition – backpacking and canoeing – in the Adirondack Wilderness.
Many NOLS students say that, when it comes to leadership ability and creative, problem-solving skills, their experience of extended time outdoors in a team setting facing ill-structured problems gave them a competitive edge over their peers at school or at work in the professional world.
The Nature-Inspired Design Wilderness Expedition will combine the rigorous NOLS curriculum with a professional level Biomimicry course while immersed in Nature’s classroom. Each day the basic format for the biomimicry course will consist of a morning lesson introducing the day’s topic / challenge, a team activity during the day, and group share or brainstorm in the evening. There will be plenty of time for private reflection and journalism as well. Far from home and your normal routine, you’ll open your mind to what nature has to teach.
